Hudson Shipping Lines has initiated a support effort to help the families of the sailors that were lost when the cargo ship Vinalines Queen sank on a voyage from Indonesia to China. The captain of the ship, a close friend of Hudson Shipping Lines, will be sorely missed.
Below is the letter from Hudson CEO Avi Eilon:
11 January, 2012
Dear Friends,
On 25 December, 2011, Hudson Shipping Lines lost a dear friend, Captain Nguyen Van Thien, when the Vinalines Queen, a Vinalines cargo ship, sank while en route from Indonesia to China. Captain Thien, who has not yet been found, was not sailing for Hudson on the ill-fated voyage, but has sailed for Hudson several times in the last few years. He was a good man and will be sorely missed.
Only one of the twenty-three crew members survived and has returned home. Rescue workers will continue to search for other survivors, but hold little hope of finding the twenty-two missing sailors alive.
The lost sailors were husbands, sons and fathers, many of whom were the sole support for their families. The emotional toll to these families is immeasurable, and the financial hardship created by the death of a loved one can be devastating. To assist the sailors’ families during this difficult time, Hudson Shipping Lines has created a relief fund that will be used to provide the vital financial help the families will need to put food on the table and to keep a roof over their heads.
Times of hardships and natural disasters tend to bring out the best in people by providing them the opportunity to step up to give support to those who are in need. I am asking you, today, to do just that.
Please reach into your hearts and give generously to support these families during this difficult time. Every dollar donated will be given directly to the sailors’ families.
Sincerely,
Mr. A. I. Eilon,
Chief Executive Officer
Hudson Shipping Lines, Inc.
