HUDSON PLEDGES NOT TO SHIP THROUGH ARCTIC OCEAN

Hudson Shipping Lines is very excited to announce their latest commitment in protecting the oceans. Hudson has joined the Arctic Corporate Shipping Pledge, agreeing not to ship goods through Arctic Ocean routes.

The effect of climate change in the Arctic marine environment has been catastrophic. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s annual Arctic report card for 2019 revealed a devasting decline in Arctic sea ice, marking the second lowest summer ice extent on record. This decline in sea ice makes Arctic Ocean routes more navigable and unfortunately, some shipping companies are taking advantage of this weakness. Arctic Ocean routes are enticing to these companies because they cut travel times but increased shipping across the Arctic will further threaten the already fragile ecosystem. Hudson recognizes that this is simply unacceptable. Protecting the Arctic is a priority and Hudson pledges not to route ships or send goods through this region.

Hudson is pleased to join this pledge with other companies making the same commitment, including Nike, Ralph Lauren Corporation, PUMA, Columbia, Gap Inc. and many more. It is Hudson’s hope to encourage others to sign the pledge. As part of the pledge, Hudson also agrees to look for additional ways to reduce their emissions from shipping.
