Another Record Broken in Geraldton

Earlier this year, Hudson set a record at Geraldton, loading the first ever Kamsarmax-size vessel at the mineral berth in Geraldton, Western Australia. Not being content to rest on our laurels, Hudson's parceling service experts once again went back to the drawing board in order to successfully bring the second ever Kamsarmax, the MV Alpha Vision (81,254 deadweight on 14.518m, length overall 229m, 7 holds/hatches) into port to load several individual parcels, but this time at two berths (another first!).

The complexity of this load surpassed that which was encountered with the Kynouria (the first Kamsarmax Hudson brought into Geraldton), and called for some creative problem-solving, along with cooperation from the Geraldton Port Authority, Hudson's local agents, and the vessel's Master.

The vessel had begun its loading adventure in Southern Australia, where it took on cargo and encountered issues with the load. Further complications arose as the displacement of a vessel in Geraldton must not exceed 60,000mt. Hudson was able to overcome this obstacle by utilizing creative techniques. The next obstacle was loading two more parcels at Geraldton in opposite ends of the ship. The two parcels were to be loaded from the same plant system, which if executed improperly, could require a vessel shift off the berth, due to her enormous size. Furthermore, the port's displacement restriction would not allow for the vessel to load one parcel, shift out and return back to the berth to finish loading the other. Hudson's technical team worked dilligently with the Master and formulated a plan that would allow both cargoes to be loaded, with no shifting and no downtime due to cleaning of equipment. The Alpha Vision sailed Geraldton early November without leaving any cargo behind, and all 7 holds loaded.

This is just one of the many examples of the relentless pursuit that Hudson strives for to stay ahead of the competition and provide unparalleled service at C.O.S.T.© for their customers.
